Sketch of ‘Myself’  2018-2019

Inspired by Walt Whitman’s “Song of Myself,” I’ve bound together a tapestry of sketches—
a ball point pen—a sheet of paper.

THIS ‘timeless’ Sojourner soaks the pages NOT with words, but instead with ‘images’…
a simple prayer unspoken, yet imbued in every detailed shadow…black, white—color.

From a transformed heart, I will share with you on the Mondays in 2018,
“Sketch of Myself.”

“I am the poet of slaves and of the masters
of slaves

                          I am the poet of the body
                          And I am
                          I am the poet of the body
                          And I am the poet of the soul
                          I go with the slaves of the earth equally with the masters
                          And I will stand between the masters and the slaves,
                          Entering into both so that both shall understand me alike
                         I am the poet of Strength and Hope.”

Whitman’s earliest proto-lines that lead to “Song of Myself”

                                       Crossing—over or under…it is all up to you

Sketch of Myself/ Jewel

Sketch of Myself
Jewel

The Real “Jewel”
is not adorned around your neck.
The rarest gem is beating
‘inside’
and no ‘price tag’ could label
the value of YOU.

Sketch of Myself/ Let a book ‘pic’ you…

Sketch of Myself
Let a book ‘pic’ you…

Discover the shelf
holding the treasure
waiting for you…

What will the pages say to you?
Allow the story to come alive.
Take a role of ANY character
or become each subject.

Can you relate to the message?
Can you fill in unwritten lines
magically giving life to a story of
your own?

When you have reached the last page
and closed the cover,

rush back to the shelf
and begin again.

A book waits to ‘pic’ you.

Sketch of Myself/Behind this wall..

Sketch of Myself/ Behind this wall…
                                                 There are beautiful walls
                                                    draped with windows
                                               allowing the fresh air to roll
                                                       in and sway out

                                       There are ‘entrances’ built within these
                                   walls— sometimes the doors remain opened
                                             everyone enters is welcomed…
                                                  no one is turned away.

“If you would learn more, ask the cattle, seek information from the birds of the air.  The creeping things of earth will give you lessons.  And the fishes of the sea will tell you all.  There is not a single creature that does not know that everything is of God’s making.

God holds in power the soul of every living thing, AND the breath of every human body.”

Sketch of Myself/ Self-Portrait

Sketch of Myself/ Self-Portrait

      From this hour I ordain myself loos’d of limits and imaginary lines,
                        Going where I list, my own master, total and absolute,
                      Listening to others, and considering well what they say,
                             pausing, searching, receiving, contemplating,
                 Gently, but with undeniable will, divesting myself of the holds that would
                      hold me.

                                         I inhale great draughts of space,
               The east and the west are mine, and the north and the south are mine.

                                          I am larger than I thought,
                                 I did not know I held so much goodness.

                                            All seems beautiful to me;
                 I can repeat over to men and women, You have done such good to me, I
                                       would do the same to you,

                                      I will recruit for myself and you as I go;
                            I will scatter myself among men and women as I go;
                         I will toss the new gladness and roughness among them;
                                   Whoever denies me, it shall not trouble me;
                     Whoever accepts me, he or she shall be blessed, and shall bless me…

In the Center, a human being—he divinely chooses consciously to bring the divided  parts into Oneness—thus bringing heaven & earth together and inwardly whispering,
